do they have anything comparable to Shepards?
I'm ready to tell Lexis to fuck off and kiss my ass, but do these discount legal research providers have any way to check if your case law is still good authority?

Re: loislaw and lawnet
Thu, January 10, 2008 - 5:01 AMunfortunately, since I use neither, I don't know; but, it would seem to me a later case would have to quote and cite an earlier case to expressly over-rule it; when I didn't have WestLaw, that's how I checked up on that issue . . . . it was a good enough method to avoid getting egg on my face . . .

I use West and you can get it a lot cheaper is you just threaten to go over to Lexis and see what offers they will put on the table.
You can get all states all statutes for about $139.00.
Since you use Lexis you might threaten to go over to West..
As an aside what about Lexis is bugging you?
Of course you could call Lois and Lawnet and ask for a freebie subscription to help you decide whether you want to subscribe. I'm rather sure they'll do it.

Fri, January 11, 2008 - 11:08 AMLawnet has a 30 day guarantee.
My beef with Lexis - many, many beefs, too many to go into detail. Their sales reps are about on par with a used car salesman, their products are expensive, etc. They have huge turnover with the account reps and their sales people practically harass me while at the same time they can't keep an account rep.
I'm wise to all their crap now, and know what to say no to. The sole problem is the cost.
I will try West. They have never offered me all states and statutes for $139. The usually want about $250, and they're rude too, like they can't be bothered to waste time with a solo. The last West sales rep I spoke to sounded like he didn't even want my businsess, like I was too small to interest him.
That reminds me of car salesman who will act like they don't want to sell you a car, as a tactic. All horseshit, these games. I know how the games are played.
So I think both West and Lexis sales reps are just glorified car salesmen who play dealership type of head games. I have little patience for that and try to avoid having vendors who act that way. -

Sat, January 12, 2008 - 4:32 PMLexis charges me $220 for all Texas and all federal materials. And if there is a cite to other state case law in some case I have looked up in these libraries, I can click on it to retrieve it and there's no extra charge.
